Unlocking The Power Of Subconscious Mind
The idea of the subconscious mind was once an accepted part of psychoanalysis. However, it has since suffered a fall from popularity in academic and professional circles, due in part to its acceptance by psychics and new age healers who claim it as a pathway to unlocking psychic powers and gateways to higher consciousness.
The powers and abilities of the subconscious mind are unable to measured or tested in a laboratory. Since no two people are alike, no two minds, conscious or subconscious, will react the same to any given situation. This makes it difficult for the scientific community to accept the idea of the subconscious mind.
Your subconscious mind is a valuable, powerful tool that has been a part of humanity from our very earliest days. All over the world people from different cultures and religions recognize the existence of this state of mind, though they may call it by other names. It has been called instinct, intuition and the sixth sense. And it is something that you use every day, whether you are aware of it or not.
Defining the Subconscious Mind
To answer this question, we fist have to ask, \”What is the conscious mind?\” Consciousness basically just means \”awareness.\” Therefore, the conscious mind is what a person\’s mind is actively aware of, the totality of their perceptions, thoughts, and feelings. On the other hand, when someone is \”unconscious,\” such as when they are asleep or anesthetized, they are unaware of their surroundings, perceptions, thoughts, feelings, etc.
The subconscious mind is the state of awareness between conscious and unconscious. Quite literally, the subconscious is a second layer of perception beneath the surface of conscious thought. While in this state of mind we are able to hear things and sense things without necessarily registering them. We are less aware our surroundings and yet still able to respond to them. While in the subconscious mind we may be more in tune with our thoughts and feelings than the physical world around us.
Our brains are constantly turned on, processing a large amount of information every second of every day. Much of this information we aren\’t even aware of! When you are working or concentrating on something your brain is still busy seeing, hearing and smelling, storing and processing this data without you even being aware of it. The relevant information is put in the front of the mind where we are easily able to access it, such as noticing when the phone rings or being aware of a sudden hunger pain.
However, the rest of the information is still in our mind, and is being processed in that level of the brain beneath conscious thought in the subconscious mind.
Using The Powers Of Your Subconscious Mind
Many times our subconscious mind will process this seemingly unimportant information and come to a conclusion that our conscious mind might not agree with. In some situations we can become aware of these thoughts at a semi-conscious level of thinking. Some people call this instinct or intuition, and many of us rely on it more than we think.
It is a common feeling that happens to everyone, that sensation of something not being right, of being just a little bit of, or of having a bad feeling about something without being able to explain why you feel so uneasy. Later you might look back and see that your feelings were right on the mark. This is a prime example of the powers of the subconscious mind. Without you being aware of it your mind picked up on small pieces of information your conscious mind overlooked and came to the conclusion that something was wrong. Your subconscious, aware of an unseen threat, did its best to try to warn you.
Today we are taught to value the logical decision rather than the emotional one, to think our way through solutions rather than feel our way through them. Too often, when you have no explanation for something other than a bad feeling, you are told to ignore it. People who claim to be aware of danger, who say they can feel negative energy are often viewed with mockery. Some people, sensitive to their subconscious minds, try to brush aside their instincts, sometimes with disastrous outcomes.
In order to develop your subconscious mind you have to learn to trust it. Be aware of your feelings and thoughts, no mater how illogical it may seem. Humans developed the subconscious mind in order to survive, and even today it is still a powerful tool that will help us through our lives.
