Rest in The Lord

Psalm 55:6 is a terrific verse. It says, “Oh that I had wings like a dove for then I would fly away and be at rest.”

I’m sure you have had days where you just wanted to get away from everything and be able to get some rest. You know, days where everything just seems to be going wrong and nothing works out like you had hoped or expected. In these situations it seems like being anywhere else would be more restful.

Matthew chapter 11 says, “Come unto Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

In this passage we read of a spectacular promise given by God. All we have to do is go to Him and He will provide rest. He doesn’t give us a list of things that we have to do first, or a bunch of stipulations. We just simply need to go to Him for our rest.

Many people are unsure about how they can go to the Lord. Everyone need’s rest at times, whether it be physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual rest. God can provide them all.

Well, going to the Lord is nothing that needs to be complex or difficult. When your body is tired and in need of some physical rest, take the time to relax and do nothing but observe and admire the beauty of the world tha God has created.

Mental rest is also needed from time to time in this stressful world in which we live. To get mental rest you need to be able to re-direct your attention from work, relationships, or whatever is the source of your stress and anxiety. Think about pleasant things that help you to relax, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Emotionally, focus on the good times. Take time to laugh. Just let out a big, hearty laugh if nothing else. Spiritually, come before the Lord in prayer. Talk to Him. Don’t ever be afraid to tell Him what is on your heart and mind. He knows it anyway.

To come before the Lord, simply offer up your praises and thanksgivings to Him. Marvel in is greatness. Sing songs of praise. Take time to meditate on the Scriptures. When you come to the Lord He promises that you will receive rest, the rest that you are looking for.
